A Real Haunting

For people looking for an authentic haunted experience, Waverly Hills Sanatorium or Tunnelton’s “Big Tunnel” are popular choices.
Waverly Hills Sanatorium was a hospital for Tuberculosis patients. People have heard and seen just about everything in this hospital. Some claim to have seen shadows of people who were not there. Others claim to have heard noises coming from the ceiling, floor and walls.
One of the most famous stories was reported by The Louisville Ghost Hunter Society. They were at Waverly Hills to explore the hospital because of its reputation. They began to see apparitions which threw chairs, lamps and debris at them. Waverly Hills opened September 21. The hours are 7:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Tickets are $20 per person.
Tunnelton is another place that is said to be haunted. It is located about a half hour away from Brownstown and open year round. People usually go there to make fun of the stories they have heard, but some come back with stories of their own.
Sophomore Paige Arnold went to Tunnelton in early August. She said, “All of the girls got half way in the tunnel, and we got really cold in one spot. We heard rocks hitting the side of the tunnel, and we heard growls and voices go right beside our ears telling us to get out.” They ran out and returned to the car, but the experience was not over yet “My back started burning really bad, and they lifted the back of my shirt up and saw that I had six claw marks going down my back,” said Arnold. Just after that something hit the top of the car and left scratch marks. Arnold said, “We got out of the car to see what it was, and I saw a dark shadow run off into the woods.”
Some people enjoy these kinds of spine-tingling experiences, but others just want a small scare. Fear Fair and other similar attractions have actors who scare people. At Waverly and Tunnelton, it is the real thing.
