Owlragious Radio plays every Monday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Total Rock Radio 96.3, owned by Robert Becker. The show can be heard through traditional radio, live via Total Rock Radio’s mobile app and online at wjaa.net. Seymour High School 2013 graduate Mia Clays handed down the responsibility of being the show’s host to seniors Madeline Sciarra, Tyler Hatton, and Elliott Samons. Hatton described the show as a way to “bring forth the news at the high school to the community and be positive leaders.”

This year is Hatton’s and Samons’ second year as show hosts and Sciarra’s first year. “We tweet about it and advertise it. We even take requests for songs and shout-outs,” Sciarra said.
Hatton is in charge of doing a sports report that summarizes what the sports clubs are doing throughout the week.
Sciarra does a “Straight-A Report” that features a new student each week who is “doing well in school and is involved.” Sciarra said she sometimes picks the student based off of her own knowledge and other times she consults with teachers on which student they recommend.
Principal Greg Prange and Assistant Principal Talmadge Reasoner have been guests on the show. “Before going to the show Reasoner and Prange thought everything was computer ran,” Hatton said, “but it really is not. I like it better that way. I like being in charge of the music.”
Sciarra emphasized how much the show helped the three of them know more about what is going on in the school. “It’s gotten us more involved with the school,” Sciarra said.
Hatton mentioned that being show hosts has also helped him be a better public speaker. “It’s not an internship or anything; it is just volunteering. I really enjoy it, but it’s not really something I could see myself doing as more than a hobby,” Hatton commented, “I enjoy working for Robert and doing the local events.”
Hatton hopes to find some underclassman to take over their positions after they graduate. “We’re looking for someone fully committed to it, with a passion for music, for the school too, but mostly music,” Hatton explained, “We have a few people in mind, but we have not fully disclosed it.”
Samons, Sciarra, and Hatton’s final show at Total Rock Radio 96.3 will air the last week of July, by then, they hope to have found someone to take over.
